Milk, Milk MILK! I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with Milk!

Some of us have been avoiding dairy.
And I’m getting frustrated with all the grocery stores.
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO PUT MILK IN EVERYTHING?!?!??!?!
Our pantry has changed a bit.
Coconut milk, for smoothies
Soy milk, for baking
Rice milk, for whatever.
We still have normal milk, but we aren’t using it for everything.
At this very moment, there are 5 different types of “Milk” in our kitchen fridge!
We’ve been experimenting with dairy product substitutes too.
Soy Nog, Instead of Eggnog.
“Rice cream”-tastes like ‘cool whip’ but has an ice cream color and texture. It’s not half bad :)
Anyways, I am a total dairy addict.
I can give up fat, carbs, and sugar (to an extent),
But DAIRY!
Stand between me and dairy
And you’re in trouble!!!
So it’s been trying as we make stuff without milk.
But it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying milk ;)
As we speak, I am listening the warm fire crackle and enjoying a slice of apple pie (w/soy milk in the crust), American cheese:), rice cream, and eggnog, REAL EGGNOGGG!! :DDD
Ok I think I’ve bored you all enough with this post about food.
This has been your  nutrition talk for the week!
Eat healthfully
And DRINK MILK x)
Ciao!!!

"Writing Tag"

Yes, I'm doing another one of these thingys :)
My dear friend Allie did a tag with a writing theme.
If you participate please answer the questions then tag at least 1 friend notifying them that they have been tagged.
Have fun!

Do you prefer fiction, poems, or non-fiction when you're writing?
I like poems and fiction. Sometimes I enjoy nonfiction as well...

How many stories/poems/etc. have you started (whether finished or not)?
I'm not really sure. Quite a few poems... And probably 3 or 4 stories.

How many stories/poems/etc. have you finished?
Once again, not reallys sure. I did write a short story recently! You can read it here.
What is your favorite story/poem/etc. that you've written or are in the process of writing?
My favorite was a story I wrote with a my sister and a dear friend. It's called "The Wildfire Mystery."

Which authors inspire you to write and why do they inspire you?
Hm. Lois Walfrid Johnson! I adore all of her historical fiction books.  She writes books that give a picture of a different time period, while also proclaiming Biblical truth.
What are your favorite works by those authors?
"The Invisible Friend" is my favorite book by Lois Walfrid Johnson.
I'm going to tag Samantha.

Moonlight Sonata 3 - Presto Agitato

So I pretty much love this song.

That's right, more from -Ludwig van Beethoven-

Wouldn't you just DIE to be able to play like this??!

Anyways, I don't really have anything else to say lol
I'll let the music speak for it's self.

~Ciao

When it Rains...

Isn’t it odd?
When it rains it pours.
You know how it is…
Lots of good things happen all in one day!
Or
One thing goes wrong…
And suddenly everything seems to be falling apart!
And what’s even curiouser
Is that it seems to pour
When you least expect it!
Everything seems to be going just splendidly
The sun is shining
Not a cloud in the sky…
Then out of nowhere-
WHOOSH!
The rain falls in sheets.
And I didn’t think to pack an umbrella.
Bummer.
The challenge is praising God
While you’re standing there
In the rain
Without an umbrella
Getting drenched.
Praising him for the rain.
And not asking “WHY did it have to rain today!!!”
But rather “WHAT do you want me to learn from this?”
And trusting God to take care of things.
Even if it looks like it’s going to end in a chaotic mess when the rain lets up.
Surrendering all worry to him
Because he cares for us!

❅ ❈❇ Snowflakes ❇ ❈ ❅

This morning

I woke up and came downstairs.

Poured my coffee.

Sat down on the couch.

Looked out the window...

SNOW!!!

SNOW SNOW SNOOOOOOWWWWW!!

...shoveling...

Thankfully, it was only a light dusting so the shoveling was easy.

I am so happy!!

Snow in December!

A white Christmas, maybe??

I hope so!

Right now,
I am drinking a frozen strawberry smoothie!

Why, I'm not exactly sure.

After I made it, I considered microwaving it, to warm it up...

But, I decided against it.  Smoothies weren't meant to be warm.

So now, it's time to go out there into the cold, slushy, crisp cool white snowy-ness

To brave the elements

And get out there and go places I need to go/ do stuff I need to do.

Maybe tonight when I come home

I will make some HOT cocoa

And alternate between enjoying my warming beverege and plunking out Christmas songs on the Piano.

I LOVE WINTER!

In case it's not obvious ;)

Enough random babbling from me.

Enjoy your day!

And Enjoy the Snow!!!

I'll be home for Christmas

Another Christmas song that I love!

I'll be home for Christmas

Lyrics:
"I'm dreaming tonight
Of a place I love
Even more than I usually do.
And although I know
It's a long road back
I promise you

I'll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love-light gleams.
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams..."

Listening to this song reminded me of our troop overseas.

Way over there, far across the ocean.

In the middle of a desolate desert.

As Christmas gets closer, they look at the calendar, and think of their family back home...
Wrapping presents.
Baking cookies.
Decorating the Christmas tree.
Singing Christmas Carols.
Making snow angels as the first flakes of snow fall from the sky.

Yet our troops are out there...alone... defending our freedom to do all those things we love!
The freedom to go places, like shopping for Christmas presents.
The freedom to worship, and sing Christmas carols!
The freedom to speak, and share about the good news of Jesus' birth, death and Resurrection.
And many many other freedoms...

Thank you guys!!!!

We love you guys, we're praying for you!
Come home safely very soon!

It's a lonely, depressing and dangerous place over there.
The troops need our prayers and letters of encouragement!

Don't stop praying for our troops!

The Young Messiah (Every Valley)

Possibly my most favorite Christmas music, is Handel's Messiah.

These songs are amazing... the words are scripture put to music!!
What better way is there to celebrate Christ's birth than to sing the words proficied about him in Isaiah?

These songs totally put me in the Christmas mood! :)

I know, some of you are saying: "Ugh handel's messiah! Isn't that like... boring opera music?"

Well, allow me to introduce you to: "The Young Messiah"

These re-arranged songs from the messiah are a 1980's music group's attempt to introduce the younger generation to Handel's messiah.

I personally think they're kinda fun.

Here's one of my favorite songs, Every Valley, from "The Young Messiah".

Isaiah 40:4 "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain"

Oklahoma!

It's just darling!!

This song comes from Rogers and Hammerstein's first musical, lively and western, titled "Oklahoma!"

{I confess I have yet to see the movie, so I can't really reccomend it.}

My mom sang the song Oklahoma! in concert choir when she was attending college.
I've enjoyed listening to a recoring of it since I was younger.

I found this version (from 20th Century Fox Video Oklahoma!) on Youtube, and had to share.

O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A!

Linus and Lucy

It's a popular Christmas song.

Why it's classified as a Christmas song, I'm not exactly sure.
I mean besides the fact that its from the movie "A Charlie Brown Christmas"...Lol

This song happens to by one of my dad's favorites.

I think it's because he grew up watching Charlie Brown from a young age.

Even though I haven't really watched much Charlie Brown,

This song is special to me too!

Our family has a Christmas-time tradition.

In December, when everyone has their Christmas lights up, our family drives around our subdivision to see the Christmas lights!

We've done this since I was very young.

My dad made it extra special by creating a game.

It was called "The Reindeer Game".

The rules were that as everyone looked at Christmas lights,

You look for "Reindeer" (White light-up deer yard decorations)

We would spend an evening driving around as a family, sometimes with my cousins too...

With all of us with our faces plastered to the window screaming
"REINDEER! REINDEER! I SAW IT FIRST!"

So one night, a few years ago, we came to a house with flashing reindeer.

This was unusual!

We stopped and for some reason, my dad decided to roll down his window.

Weren't we surprised when we heard music!

"Linus and Lucy" was playing to synchronized Christmas lights!

It was very similar to this house:

We were amazed and entertained by this spectacular display of lights!

Every year since, we've stopped by the "Charlie Brown House" as a part of our drive to look at christmas lights.

This is just one, of many fond memories I have of Christmas time.

In my opinion, Christmas really is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Merry Christmas in advance! ;)

A Heroic Combination

So today I decided to pretend that carbs are not my adversary.
Rather, for the duration of this day, it shall be pretended that carbs are a symbol of amnety.

In following this idea, I started the day with coffe+ plenty of vanilla creamer.

Breakfast was a bowl of oatmeal.

Lunch was leftover pizza.

And dinner, was lots and lots and lots of french bread and spinach stuffed pasta shells!

And to celebrate the yum-i-liciousness of my day, I am just now finishing the worlds most

Heroic Combination

Superman Ice Cream + Brownies FOR THE WIN.

There is nothing better, at the end of a long stressing day, then a bowl of ice cream...

And ice cream with brownies.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

Sorry guys, I do mean to do some longer posts about deeper subjucts.
But food is on the brain!

NMN

Guess what??
It’s NMN!!!!!!
What is NMN, you ask?
Why, it stands “No Makeup November”, of course!

That’s right- this month, I’m not going to wear any make-up.

It’s not that I’m a make-up junkie…
The most make-up I wear on a normal day is mascara, eyeliner, and maybe a tinch of eyeshadow.

So why am I doing this?

Well, first of all, I think self-confidence is important, especially for girls!
God made you beautiful, just the way you are. You don’t need make-up to fix “imperfections”cuz God doesn’t make mistakes.
Psalm 139:14 says “14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works…” (NKJV)
I don’t want to depend on make-up.
I want to depend on God! :D
If I feel insecure about myself, I don’t want to use make-up to repair my confidence.
Those days are the days when I can grow closer to the Lord, asking him to give me contentment and joy in my appearance, and thanking him for making me just the way I am!
Be confident in the girl God made you! There’s need to hide behind make-up ;)

Secondly, while looking pretty on the outside is nice, I know that God is far more concerned about the inside.
1Peter 3:3-4 says: “3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward… 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” (NKJV)
Sometimes it seems like looking perfect, is being perfect.
But it’s possible to look like a Barbie doll, and still be ugly on the inside.
The important thing is inner beauty!
Love, joy... a gentle and quiet spirit.. patience, peace..
When I focus my attention on inner beauty, it will show on the outside;
In the way I treat others and in my eyes and smile! :) My friend Katie (the one who I got the idea for NMN from) said this on her blog:
Something that I've noticed in my friends, without their thick eyeliner, is their smiles. Gorgeous things, smiles. They are so so so much better than make-up at enhancing beauty. I love it. And I've been forced to really examine my concept of beauty during these 9 days (so far). It's not outward at all. In fact, the external is like a screen, it reflects what's inward. That's why smiles look so great on people-it's projecting an internal joy.”

Taking a make-up break is a good way for me to maintain a healthy view on beauty.

Now don’t misunderstand me here: I don’t think make-up is wrong. Make-up is a fun compliment to an outfit. It can express your creativity and your personality. It’s useful for covering up zits! It can make you look dressed up for special occasions. There are many good reasons to use make up.

But when I use it, I hope to keep things in perspective.

I’m not saying it’s going to be easy… especially when those “I feel crummy” days come.

But: I’m up for the challenge.

Are you?

Carbs, Carbs, Carbs

Carbs.
You never notice them until you try to avoid them.
But when you do try to evade them,
You realize
They’re everywhere.

In your cereal.
In your Pb&J sandwich.
In your orange juice.
In the dressing on your salad.
In your taco.
In your mini candy bar.
In your baked potato.
In your banana.
In your fried chicken and rice.
And,
In your pumpkin spice latte.

They lurk where you least expect them…
Tempting you to eat them as they hide in your favorite foods.
You ask yourself “Do I need to live on boiled chicken, peanut butter and water to avoid carbs??!!”

Don’t worry. There is a solution!

You can make:
Flourless Chocolate Cake
That’s right… with a few adjustments, I *think* this recipe could be nearly carb free.
Cut the sugar back to 1/3rd cups and substitute it with splenda.
Yes, splenda is gross and I don’t like to use it
But in the name of avoiding carbs I’m willing to give it a try.
This time I made the cake w/real sugar so it has carbs. But it’s still a low carb cake.
Here is a picture of the one I made today:

Isn’t it beautiful? {if I do say so myself}
It’s so tasty too! ;)
If you would like to try the recipe, you can find it below.
Happy baking! :D

Flourless Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1.       Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease an 8 inch round cake pan, and dust with cocoa powder.
2.       In the top of a double boiler over lightly simmering water, melt chocolate and butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, and vanilla. Pour into prepared pan.
3.       Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely. Slices can also be reheated for 20 to 30 seconds in the microwave before serving.
4.       (optional) for the topping melt choco-chips with shortening. Top with raspberrys and let sit till top is set.

"Forgotten soup burns on the bottom"

A wise person once said: "Forgotten soup burns on the bottom"

As the story goes,

There was once a girl who was greatly dreading finishing her spanish homework.

One day, her workload of assignments was abnormally large.

Unsure of how to tackle the job

The girl decided to look through recipe books instead.

She found a delicious recipe for

"Broccoli Cheese Soup"

"Hey!" she said to herself "This soup would make a delicious dinner."

Dinner was important.

Alas, Spanish would have to wait.

The girl began to prepare the soup.

The first step was to make basic white sauce.

While the sauce thickened

the girl slowly washed and chopped the broccoli

staring into space

pondering spanish verb forms.

Suddenly

she was aware of a rapid boiling sound.

The WHITESAUCE!!

The girl hurried to stir the soup.

Sadly, the sauce had burned on the bottom

creating brown goop in the soup.

The girl gazed sadly into the pot of soup

and attempted to remove some of the goop with a strainer.

"Forgotten soup burns on the bottom" she muttered to herself.

Let this be a lesson to all who read this blog, that one should always be completely focused on what he cooks.

Also: procrastination is generally regretted.

"Candlelight"

Yes, I'm back to the whole post videos and dont write much type of blogging.
Don't worry people: I will do a real post soon!
Just don't have time right now.

So this post is-- you guessed it! -- another song :)

It's the Jewish version of "Dynamite"!!
And (I believe) it's acapella.
Yep. The video is a little crazy lol but the song is fun.

{Please excuse the weird highlighting below.. my blog is having issues.}

I’ll tell a tale
Of Maccabees in Israel
When the Greeks tried to assail
But it was all to no avail
The war went on and on and on
Until the mighty Greeks were gone
I flip my latkes in the air sometimes sayin ayy ohh spin the dreidel
Just wanna celebrate for all eight nights singin ayy oh, light the candles
We say al hanissim
Oh yea for all eight nights
Then we play dreidel
By the candlelight
And I told you once
Now I told you twice
Bout the miracle
Of the candlelight
They took the field
The rivals thought “are they for real?"
Those maccabees they’d never yield
They charged ahead with sword and shield
The war went on and on and on
Until the mighty Greeks were gone
I flip my latkes in the air sometimes sayin ayy ohh spin the dreidel
Just wanna celebrate for all eight nights singin ayy oh, light the candles
We say maoz tzur
Oh yea for all eight nights
Then we play dreidel
By the candlelight
And I told you once
Now I told you twice
Bout the miracle
Of the candlelight
And the great menorah
For eight days it kept on burning
What a celebration
A great return to Torah learning
Cuz I can feel it
And Ay-ay-ay
Nes gadol, nes gadol
Nes gadol hayah sham
I flip my latkes in the air sometimes sayin ayy ohh spin the dreidel
Just wanna celebrate for all eight nights singin ayy oh, light the candles
We say al hanissim
Oh yea for all eight nights
Then we play dreidel
By the candlelight
And I told you once
Now I told you twice
Bout the miracle
Of the candlelight

Egmont

I recently heard this song for the first time. I love it so much! I can listen to it several times in a row without getting tired of it.

"Egmont Overture"

It was first written by Beethoven in the year 1809, 2 years after he wrote his famous "Fifth Symphony".

It's moving and dramatic.

According to wikipedia: "The subject of the music and dramatic narrative is the life and heroism of a 16th-century Flemish nobleman, the Count of Egmont... In the music for Egmont, Beethoven expressed his own political concerns through the exaltation of the heroic sacrifice of a man condemned to death for having taken a valiant stand against oppression."

Egmont Overture is a beautiful composition.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Why I love FALL!

Greetings loyal followers!

I have been lazy lately. I stopped blogging.

Not that I ever really blogged.. I did "mini-blogging"

Posting songs and pictures and stuff.

But, I have decided it's time for a real blog post!! Hooray!

Today's post is about fall- I love autumn!

I love the warm days for taking walks and having picnics.
I love the cool nights perfect for eating hot soup and wearing hoodies and slippers.
I love the vibrant colors on the trees as the leaves change color and fall.
I love the fuzzy orange and brown caterpillars that you find among the leaves in the woods.
I love the autum crops: pumpkins, squash, apples and teaberries!
I love the special days in fall: Thanksgiving and my birthday! :)

Whats not to love???

Well a few things.
First of all: allergies. My allergies always act up when the seasons change.
Secondly: school. Fall means the beginning of the school year.  And all that homework...
But thats ok, because I do like school for the most part.. I love doing coops and taking classes.

So what are some highlights this fall so far?

Well, one thing I've really enjoyed is watching the critters.

At dusk, the deer come out to graze.  This year, I've seen more deer than I can count. Does, fawns, and some big buck too!  It's always fun to see them.  Unless we're driving, of course..

Another thing that I love love LOVE is watching the Bald Eagles!  Last night, two eagles flew right past the porch.  They're humongous, majestic birds. To see them so close almost seemed unreal.

Now here's something that not everyone will agree with me on.. Snakes are so neato! I've seen a number of them so far. They come out on warm fall days to sun themselves, so I like to look for them when I take walks. Don't worry, I didn't pick them up. ;)

Still haven't seen any live bears.  I did find the remains of a bear when I was hiking with my dad though. The skull and claws were there and everything! Heehee.. I won't gross you out with any more details.

Other highlights:

Helping my uncle print shirts in his screen printing shop! Acutally, I did more talking than helping (what did you expect?!?!?) but he showed me how everything works.  It was really awesome.

Making cotton candy!! I was the bag holder, which means I stuff the cotton candy in the bag. There may have been more going into my mouth than into the bag, but hey, I had to make sure it was safe for the others to eat, right??

Eating ice cream. Lots of it. Teaberry ice cream!!! With apple crisp! Ugh I'm getting hungry now...

Photoshoots with my sister! She's amazing. I'm a pain (especially during photoshoots), and she puts up with me.  I love her to pieces!!!! We've been taking lots of pictures, and been sharing lots of laughs. Love you Em! <3

Hanging out at Gram's place. She's the best :)

Playing presidents with my sister! It's really hard to win, cuz you both know which cards the other person has x)

Well I think that's enough to qualify this as a real blog post.

Happy Autumn!! :D

Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 - 3th Mov.

Wowie. Kazowie. <3 I believe I just found myself a new favorite..

Peter and..

the Wolf.

I remember listening to this song since I was little. We have it on a record and mom used to put it on and explain how the different instruments represented different characters from the story. The flute was the bird. The oboe, the duck. The Clarinet, the cat. The Bassoon, the Grandfather. The French horns, the wolf. And the stringed instruments, Peter. The music tells a story! So awesome :)

He is Lord (Part 2!)

Satan's forces crumbled like a mighty wall;. The stone that held Him in was rolled aside. The stone that held Him in was rolled a-side. The Prince of life in glory was lifted over all; Now earth and heaven echo with the cry.
He is Lord! He is Lord! He is risen from the dead and He is Lord! Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, That JESUS CHRIST is LORD!

He is Lord

One of my favorite hymns- especially at easter time:

Emptied of His glory, God became a man, To walk on earth in ridicule and shame. A Ruler, yet a Servant; a Shepherd, yet a Lamb; a Man of Sorrows, agony and pain.
Humbled and rejected, beaten and despised; Upon the cross the Son of God was slain. Just like a lamb to slaughter, a sinless sacrifice: But by His death His loss became our gain.

A Mighty Fortress

1
A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe --
His craft and pow'r are great,
And armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

2
Did we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing,
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He --
Lord Sabaoth His name,
From age to age the same --
And He must win the battle.

3
And tho this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph thru us.
The prince of darkness grim --
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure --
One little word shall fell him.

4
That word above all earthly pow'rs --
No thanks to them abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Thru Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still --
His kingdom is forever.
His kingdom is FOREVER and EVER!

~Steve Green :)
