One Fun Day

Today was a special day.
Mrs. S's birthday! :)

Today we met up with the S's to spend the day together.

Mom dropped me off with them in the morning.

We went and got bagels at a nearby bagel shop.
Who knew there were so many delicous types of bagels?! Lol
My bagel was spinach florentine- yummy!! :)

Next was a visit to a garden/historical museum.
I had never been there before but wow! What a beautiful park!

We had a lot of fun climbing on/sliding off of the tanks!

While walking around, we stepped inside the band shelter tent.
In honor of Mrs. S's bday, we all sang the National Anthem (with harmony!) in the tent.
You should have heard us. We were melodious and unashamed! ;)

We also visited the flower gardens.
So many unique flowers!
I liked the "lambs ears" :)
And there were bushes and bushes of roses!!!
And there was a pond with goldfish and frogs. We like to scare the frogs.

After our time at the park was almost done, we met up with mom and soonafter headed out to the mall!
The car ride to and from the mall= 3 giggling/chattering girls in the backseat :)

At the mall we had chinese for lunch.
And then had a fun time popping in and out of many stores :)
And eating candy.
And taking blood pressures.
And trying on so many lovely perfumes which were rather sickening when mixed Hehe.

Fun, fun day!
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for special friends and the sweet memories we have together! :)

Me encantan las bodas!

I love weddings!
Yesterday my cousin got married!
She is the second cousin (out of sixteen!) on my mom's side to get married! :)

Scott and Jacqui are a fun couple.
They met in a paint shop... which is kinda ironic since Scott (and now Jacqui's;) last name is Painter! xD
I'm so excited to see what God will do with them as they enter this new stage of life!

This is a picture of them from December 2009- just a few months after they started dating.

Now, just over 2 years later, they are married! :D

So excited for them!!!!!!!!!! (sorry.. Scott's head got kinda cut off :P)

The ceremony was lovely.. Jacqui's younger brother who is studying to be a pastor gave the message for the wedding.
It was really good- He talked about the wife's responsibility to submit to her husband just as all of us in the church (the body of Christ) submit to Christ; and he talked about the husband's responsibility to give up comfort and give of himself even unto death out of love for his wife, just life Christ gave up comfort and came to suffer and die out of love for us!
The symbolism is so great!!

They wrote their own vows which was really neat too.

After the wedding was the reception. Seven of my other cousins were there and it was really good to see them!
One of them was my cousin who is a marine. Thank you Lord for bringing him home safely!
Anyways, the reception was so fancy! I was a little confused about which silvewear was mine and which glass I was supposed to use... lol
But it was a lovely reception and the food was delicious!
What a fun evening!

Thank you Lord for designing marriage.
Bless Scott and Jaqui as they start their new life together- may they grow even closer to you and be a blessing and light for Christ to all who they encounter!  Give them a strong marriage and a firm foundation with Christ as the solid rock and center of their home. Amen. :)

2 day get-away

Vacation doesn't help you get stuff done... at all.But it is good opportunity to take a step back from your life and examine yourself/listen to what the Lord wants to teach you.
And it's wonderful for quality sister-sister time :)

Our family went to Michigan this week.
The lake is just down the road from our friend's house.
It was big, blue and breathtaking! (and very cold).

I acutally sat down and read a book during our trip!
Sadly, I did not finish it :(
But it's REALLY good so I'll hopefully finish it soon unless the business of life and events gets me so wound up that I forget about reading, aaagain... bleh.
It's a book for girls that I got at the conference: If any of you gals wants the title, just LMK!

So, during our (short) vacation, I found a new favorite fruit!!
FIGS!
They're like... desserts that grow on trees! :D
Like fig newtons without the cookie part.
If you haven't had figs: you are DEPRIVED and I am sorry for you!

Well, I hope your weekend is lovely.

WOW!
This is so BEAUTIFUL!!!
I believe this one was sung in German.
Written by brahms, these songs are from "Lovesong Waltzes".

Ok, the busy weekend is now over!
Praise the Lord: the weather was good and everything went smoothly! Thank you, God!
The celebration at our house went well!
We were blessed with lots of help with setup, take down, and more.
I was really happy to see so many people come! Many friends and family came which was really special.

This week we're going to visit the sandy/sunny beach-side of MI!!! Just like the ocean, except the water isn't salty and there are no sharks or jelly fish. WOOT! x)
I'm looking forward to it!!!

Well, I have some things to go do now...
I was trying to procrastinate by blogging but... *sigh*... stuff is just piling up.

Espero que disfrutes tu semana!
Sinceramente,

And it's FRIDAY!

Happy Friday, Friends/Followers! :D

Ok. After this week, I reeeally want a dog.
I've enjoyed taking walks with Captain, my silent companion... not talking, just walking and enjoying God's creation!
He's a funny dog.. he's really quiet, yet perky :)
Tonight was a gorgeous night for a walk.. calm, 76 degrees, and the sun was just going down.
And (@Samantha) I saw a firefly! Yay!

Today was the 2nd day of the conference.
It was really good!
The keynotes and workshops were all so encouraging!
And I appreciated that the focus off everything was: Make Christ center of your education- and your life!

It was fun: in the afternoon a friend and I got to meet Jill Duggar! She was very sweet; we enjoyed talking to her briefly.
I was very blessed by the Duggar girl's session (unfortunately I only made it to one of them..)
It was encouraging to listen to other Christian young ladies and hear what God is teaching them at this stage of their life.

Overall the conference was a big blessing to me, and I'm it sure it was to many others as well.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the service of the speakers and the coordinators of this conference and they way you use us believers to encourage one another! Please give us the grace to stay humble and looking to you, and help us to keep you as the focus and center of our lives!

Tomorrow and Sunday is gonna be busy for sure.
Pray that we can stay calm and trust God with the details of the weekend!
Thanks!

Another Week Goes By.

Hello loyal followers!

My blog has turned into more of an online journal-scrapbook than a blog.

So if that bothers you... my apologies.

My week in a nutshell:

I have been busy trying to get as close as possible to finishing my remaining studies...
Unfortunately.. it's hard to progress much when the to-do list for "weekend prep" is long and getting longer.

Today we had Paul and Katie over to help with graduation prep (and to hang out :).

Paul is my cousin.
He's a cool cousin and amazing musician... he re-strung my guitar for me and it is now in working order!
THANK YOU PAUL!!!

Because I can now play my guitar, I.... wait for it... trimmed my nails!
Yep. I finally did it. They are pathetically ugly short now.
Trying not to cry...
jk ;)

Katie, Paul and I had a great time making graduation hats.

Then volunteering w/Ju and Monica... it was a slow-ish day.

After volunteering, Julia came over for dinner and to practice music with me!
We ended up recruiting Paul on horn for our musical endevor.
I have some major organizing to do now...
Lord, please help this last minute music somehow come together!!!

Tomorrow.. epic conference.

Friday.. ditto.

Saturday: prep.

Sunday: party.

Where is my week going...

WHERE IS MY LIFE GOING?!?!

Please slow down... down.... DDDOOO00ooooowwwwwnn.

Homemade "Cough Drops"

So you have a sore throat, and you want something to soothe it...

But you don't want to eat all those store-bought chemical-y thingies?

Are you looking for a something you can make yourself that's probably way cheaper than the cough drops from the store?? (but don't quote me on that cuz I haven't compared the cost yet.... :P)

Well, look no further!

I know, I know... they look weird.
My cough drops turned out a gross color because the browned cooked sugar mixed with the food coloring made them look brown/green.

But they still taste good! :D

Anyways, these (see above picture) are homemade cough drops!

I got the recipe here.

I used a mint tea for the "herbs" and they taste great!  I also used green food coloring but I'm sure it would be fine without it.

My only warning is: don't drop them on a tray unless you want flat cough drops.
Use a candy mold. Or, a mini ice cube tray would probably work.

Also, my cough drops didn't crystallize when I was cooking them. So even though the recipe says to wait until they crystalize, don't worry about that. Just make sure you turn off the stove when the sugar starts to get thick and really brown, otherwise your cough drops will burn and most likely taste nasty.

So there you have it! Homemade cough drops!

They're really nothing more than herbal hard candy, but they do soothe the throat.

Something with lemon and honey would probably be more natural and healthy, but I haven't found a recipe like that. If you find one, please share!

Que lo pases bien!
